Endurance Specialty Holdings’ documents migrated to Kcenter from ImageRight

March 12, 2009

In February 2009, QBE European Operations, one of the UK’s largest insurers of business risks, acquired the renewal rights to the portfolio of industrial and commercial property business written by Endurance Specialty Holdings Ltd. As part of the purchase, the 30-strong London Endurance Insurance Risk Practice Team moved to QBE’s Plantation Place offices, bringing with them an export of tens of thousands of electronic documents that had previously been stored in Endurance’s ImageRight system.

QBE uses Kcenter throughout its London operation as its standard solution for document management and workflow and approached KnowledgeCenter for assistance in importing the Endurance documents into the Kcenter system.

KnowledgeCenter’s consultants were able to understand the somewhat unusual ImageRight format. They found that each logical document could be made up of multiple files, often mixing different binary formats within a single document.

Dennis Backer, a Solution Architect at KnowledgeCenter comments:

“We hadn’t seen anything quite like the ImageRight export format before. It created a challenge for us, to assemble each logical document into a format that could be stored on the Kcenter system. But we were able to solve the problem by re-using some of the document aggregation capability that underlies our KC Book product.”

At the time of writing, KnowledgeCenter is working on building a tool to import documents and data from the ImageRight export format. Once it is built, KnowledgeCenter will be well positioned to assist other customers who need to move their documents out of ImageRight.
